Emory & Henry College Gains a New Assistant Coach
EMORY, VA – This year, Emory & Henry College hired new assistant coach Stephon Robertson who will be working with the linebackers. Robertson is from Alexandria, Virginia, went to Thomas A. Edison High School, and graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
“I got a couple scholarships for football. I chose JMU. My first thought, as soon as I stepped on to campus, it felt like home… I took two more visits, but I just knew JMU was just it,” said Robertson.
According to JMU Sports, Robertson led JMU in tackles in seven of the 11 games played and recorded double-digit tackles in six games, five of them CAA contests. In high school, he was rated by ESPN.com as a top 150 prospect while at Edison High School. In 2008, [he] was district defensive Player of the Year, First-Team All-District at running back and linebacker and First-Team All-Region at linebacker.
“I have been around football my whole entire life… I was a little mascot running around back then, baggy jersey and stuff. By the time I was like five, the year before I could actually play [football], I would start playing tackle with some of the boys…They always use to say I was a weird little child because every time I fell or something, I would just get up laughing,” said Robertson.

In NFL Draft Diamonds, Robertson is referred to as a “tackling machine.” In addition, Robertson is said to be “A very high motored player who is going to do whatever is asked. Last year he was named CAA Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-CAA at linebacker. Robertson could very well end up with the Buck Buchanan Award this year.”
Robertson didn't end up with the Buck Buchanan Award.
However, according to NFL Draft Scout, Robertson was named as runner up for the Buck Buchanan Award for the nation's top defensive player and was honored as the Dudley Award winner given to the best Division I football player in Virginia.

Although Robertson has hung up his cleats as a player, he loves coaching at E&H. In the little time he's been at Emory, he’s been having a really great time. He describes E&H as a “nice, feels like home feeling.”
In April 2017, according to The Knot, Robertson plans on getting married to his fiancé, Morgan Johnson, in Seneca, South Carolina.
